The children are the focal point of everything that happens here because, without them, the school would not be here at all! Your Questions Answered!

Whether you're a prospective parent or a current member of our community, this section aims to address inquiries and offer insights.

How are children with additional needs catered for?

Children with a wide variety of needs are catered for in our school. We have a dedicated Special Education Team, made up of teachers and Special Needs Assistants. Plans are drawn up for each child in these circumstances and the class teachers and SET team co-ordinate the needs of children who require support in classrooms or in small group settings, depending on each child’s needs. If you have concerns about your child’s learning or any specific disability or medical need, please contact the school to discuss it further.

What big events take place each year?

An open day takes place each June for parents and children to see the school before children start in September. On the first day of school there is also a coffee morning in the school hall. Each December we host carol services or Christmas plays each December. In January we have Grandparent’s Day and all grandparents are invited. Communion, confirmation and graduation ceremonies also take place each year and families are invited to our school to celebrate them. In the final term, we have an open day for our outdoor learning space and parents are welcome to sports day.

How can parents be involved in their children’s education?

We believe strongly in a partnership approach to children’s education. We have a meeting for new parents before children start and have a number of communication channels with parents, including the school app, Aladdin and here on our website. Class teachers also communicate with parents directly, including parent teacher meetings every November. We also have a brilliant Parent’s Association, who host events in the school each year and are always welcoming of new members. They are available to contact at paslanens@gmail.com

How do you ensure the safety of the children on the premises?

Our school has a perimeter fence, which keeps children safe in the school. Once the school day begins, entry is only by signing in at the school office. Students are also supervised at break times during the school day. We also have practiced routines for entry to, exit from, and movement around the school each day.

Do you offer extra-curricular activities?

Our school has an after-school club from 3-5pm each day. In addition, there are Irish dancing, Speech and Drama and various Music lessons available after school. Communication about after school activities goes out to parents at the start of each year. If you want further information on any of them you can contact office@slanens.ie

Who Manages the School?
