In our school, we use theLundy Model of student participation. This means we give them a voice, a space to speak, an audience and influence on what happens next.
Currently, we have several committees that students from a range of classes are on. They include the Green Flag Committee, an Choiste Ghaelbhratach, the Wellbeing Committee and the Active Schools Committee. The students also have leadership roles in the school by running our school hen company and our creative school project. Senior students coach at lunch breaks, help junior infants with their transition to school by organising games for them at break times, assist with the school meals scheme and waste and composting each Friday. Students in each class also lead assembly each month, which is a great chance for each child to develop their public speaking skills each year.
