It was a busy day in St. Patrick's National School on St. Brigid's Day. Many children brought rushes to school to make St. Brigid's crosses. It is believed that St. Brigid used rushes to make a cross to teach an Irish pagan chieftain about Christianity. St. Brigid's crosses are hung above doors in houses and barns or stables to keep the people and livestock safe from harm.Pupils in 6th and 5th classes made their own crosses before going to other classes to help other children make theirs.
