6th Class at Microsoft Dreamspace Showcase

6th class pupils were invited to Microsoft head office recently to showcase projects following their participation in the Microsoft Dream Space Academy education programme. The programme introduces STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) at primary level in a creative, fun and collaborative way.

The schools programme in County Meath began when Meath County Council teamed up with Microsoft. Microsoft worked with participating schools providing online tutorials/classes to primary school teachers to help them use small computers called Micro:bits. These devices are a great introduction to computational thinking, problem solving skills and critical thinking.Pupils travelled to Microsoft with Mr. Flanagan to showcase their projects using the Micro:bits. One of the groups were awarded a future STEM leaders award. The class had a great time and produced some really innovative projects, including helping blind and deaf people at traffic lights, alert owners of trees from tree theft and an exercise monitor.
