We had our naming ceremony last month for our five new hens. Each pupil in the school was asked to think up of a name for the hens and names were then pulled out of a hat for junior and senior infants, first and second, third and fourth and fifth and sixth classes. Five new hens arrived to the school this morning. They are settling in to their new home and are becoming familiar with all of the pupils. We will name the hens next week. The new 5th class pupils will be trained up on how to care for the hens. Reports will follow as the pupils take on their new role. 5th class are busy taking care of the hens. Every day they are in charge of collecting the eggs, cleaning the coup, giving the hens fresh water and food, and filling in the log book. 6th class have already had the chance to buy eggs and every class will get a turn throughout the year.
