One boy and one girl from each class from second to sixth was drawn out last week to visit Newgrange to help the Brú na Bóinne staff to pick the 50 lucky people who get to visit Newgrange for the winter solstice this year. It is the first year that the draw involved local pupils since 2018.
The lucky pupils were collected by Frank on an electric (!) Brú na Bóinne bus this morning and transported to the Centre, where they were joined by pupils from Knockcommon and Donore National Schools, as well as Brú na Bóinne staff. Pupils took turns to pick the 50 lucky tickets (and the 28 reserves). Winners came from as near as Dublin, Meath, Louth, Westmeath and Kildare and as far away as Virginia, South Carolina and California in the USA, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, England, Canada and Turkey.
After the hard work was completed, pupils were treated to a hot lunch in the Brú na Bóinne canteen. Many thanks to all the staff in Newgrange for the once in a lifetime trip for the pupils.
