Fourth class had three lessons in one last week as part of their Erasmus outdoor learning project. The class were at the front of the school for their lessons this week, where they explored these topics:
- Why May is the time of year where nest building is happening for birds. Pupils got to see a blackbird’s nest and how it was built. They then built a nest of their own and it was tested with a golf ball as an egg to see how well it was built (Mr. Ó Braonáin)
- Sunflowers are not just beautiful flowers to look at but they are also great for biodiversity and give us seeds as a source of food and oil in cooking and baking. Sunflowers will die if there is frost so they are planted in May wen the weather is warmer. Pupils planted sunflower seeds in this station (Ms. Kerr and Ms. Cullen).
- Pupils tried to find as many different types of wildflowers in the wildflower meadow at the front of the school. We recorded all the different types we found.
