Earlier this spring we cleaned out our pond. It was full of plants and their roots so frogs had stopped coming to lay their eggs.
Now that it is clean, we needed some tadpoles to start the cycle again. Taking tadpoles or frogspawn from the wild is illegal in Ireland but teachers have a special licence to remove frogspawn and tadpoles for educational purposes.
Many thanks to CC and LC who donated some tadpoles for our school. Each female frog lays around 4,000 eggs but only about four develop into adult frogs. We hope the new tadpoles will make their home with us and return to the pond every year.
